Description: This Sweet Dish was designed to hold small, wrapped candies and is one of the harder-to-find designs by Meier for Swid Powell. We believe it was only produced for the first couple of years, thus its scarcity. This example appears unused and as new, but no longer has its original box.
These dishes were initially made by Lunt Silversmiths in Massachusetts, which we confirmed with a former Swid Powell employee. We have also seen an example with its original Lunt box. These appear in Swid Powell’s 1986 published marketing foldout catalog, but is absent from their 1988 catalog inventory insert. Plus we cannot find it illustrated in other Swid Powell catalogs or the Annette Tapert book. This example is marked as shown. It is our understanding that for a short period of time production of this object moved to Cleto Munari in Italy and those examples would bear those additional Made in Italy markings, but not many of these can be found. Examples of this design can be found in the permanent collections of the High Museum of Art and the Yale University Art Gallery.
