Description: Bump is a Vermont-based wood sculptor best known for her stylized modernist wood jewelry boxes of various animal forms crafted in the 1970s and 80s. We believe it is fair to categorize her work as being part of the American Studio arts movement based on the designs and overall quality.
For this large owl box Bump used gorgeous burl maple in contrast with mahogany to create a dynamic visual effect. The large owl form is one of the largest of all her boxes and a testament to her design sensibilities and high level of craftsmanship. We have only seen a few of these over the past 10 years, generally selling for over $1,000. Do not confuse this model with a smaller two drawer owl carved from single pieces and using less exotic woods.
