Description: Quistgaard’s Fjord flatware are some of his most collectable and sought after designs. Although this carving set is ubiquitous and can easily be found on various internet shopping sites for less than $75, and sometimes even with its original black interior holding box, the likelihood of finding another set mint, in both its original inner and outer shipping boxes, and retaining the original paper information insert, is quite low. The Fjord utensils were made in Germany, as many were, but we believe based on the markings on the exterior shipping box that the package itself came out of Denmark.
This set was retailed by a store in St. Louis, Missouri. We have not been able to identify any information about this retailer. But this example retains the retailer’s label, as well as its U. S. Postal Service post mark, which dates this set to 1955. Given the postmark date of December 22nd, it is possible this was purchased as a Christmas gift that was never used. This example is worthy of a museum collection.
