Description: Here is a rare pair of beautiful and stylish Lisa Larson for Gustavsberg candlesticks in the Advent series made in 1956. We originally believed these to be a Stig Lindberg design based on the shape of the top and the striped glaze pattern, but a thoughtful Swedish collector corrected us. We have not been able to find another example and we have been looking for years, but we did find the page from the Gustavsberg catalog from 1956 where this Advent series was introduced. At the time these were produced Stig Lindberg was the artistic director at Gustavsberg and mentored Larson, so it appears Lindberg's work influenced this design. There are many Lindberg bowls and vases that share the same scooped top with pointed ends.
This pair retains its original Gustavsberg paper sticker label, remains of another label that is faded and unreadable and the impressed Gustavsberg marks with the anchor. The glaze appears to have been hand applied. These were only lightly used, but some pieces of candles have fallen inside. They are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or other defects.
