Description: Here are a beautiful pair of candlesticks or candle holders designed by Giuliano Malimpensa, the founder of the firm MESA. These were made in Italy at MESA’s factory in Bregnano. Signed as marked in the metal base and retaining their original paper labels. This elegant pair would grace any home.
According to the MESA website Malimpensa began working for Lino Sabattini at the age of 15 where he learned from the master the techniques of hand-crafted silver and brass. Since the 1970’s he has worked with the great Italian masters of design, such as Gio Ponti and others. He started MESA in 1980 as a small firm designed as a studio rather than a of “atelier” in mind, a laboratory of applied arts, a far cry from the mass market production firms and their competitors. Several pieces designed by him are permanently exhibited at the museum “Die Neue Sammlung” in Monaco and in the “Kyoto extension center” in Kyoto, Japan. He also lectures at Seika University, Kyoto, on production design methods in silver. Five Mesa products are on permanent display at Die Neue Sammlung in Munich, Germany. And many others have been shortlisted in several editions of the Compasso d’oro, Italy’s leading design award.
