Description: An iconic Carl Auböck II design. These important candlesticks are illustrated in at least four books, including the Kois book on one entire page, as well as on the back cover. This pair came from the estate of a prominent New York City publishing executive who had many very fine objects in his home.
This twentieth century design presents as functional sculpture. These are very heavy for their size and extremely well made. They are each marked as shown with the correct impressed Auböck signature and Made in Austria markings. A pair of these sold at Wright auctions in October 2016, for $3,750 (not including the buyers premium). The original drawings for these candlesticks are found in the Archive books referenced above.
Condition: Excellent to very good. Some oxidation and candle wax marks to both tops as can be seen in the photos. Clearly these were actually used. One is in excellent vintage condition. The other is in very good condition and looks like it may have been dropped once causing a very small horizontal crack in the edge to the top as can been seen in the close up photo we posted. However, it is not really noticeable and we only first noticed it from feeling it by touch. It is stable and not coming off.
