Description: Here is a pair of Curry’s well known Model M Block bookends which are heavy aluminum cubes that are highly sought after designs. These were made in solid red, white, black, blue, orange, yellow, green and chrome finishes. This set is in the vibrant red. Curry also designed the Model M-D Blocks which are the same as the Model M except they are produced with contrasting colored letters and symbols that appear as children’s letter blocks. This pair is in unusually fine condition with no flaws and retaining the original labels on the bottoms as shown. Most we have seen, and there are not many out there to begin with, are often scratched up and missing paint. These are very heavy for their size, each weighing in about 3 ½ pounds, so they really do hold up books.
The Model M Block model makes its first appearance in the Design Line catalog dated from 1972-73 with color images and details and can be found on the Internet. Although Curry died in 1971, his wife kept the firm open just a few more years when many of his most classic designs were produced.
